The 'Yorkshire Exmoor Pony Trust' wins this year's NYMA Conservation Award
At our AGM on Saturday 3 June we were delighted to award the sum of £500 to the Yorkshire Exmoor Pony Trust, a small voluntary organisation which deploys 18 Exmoor ponies at various locations across northern and eastern Yorkshire to help maintain conservation sites. They do this by grazing areas of rough grass, wildflowers and other vegetation, helping to impoverish the soil and create optimum conditions for native vegetation to flourish. Susanna Baker received the award on behalf of the YEPT and explained that although the ponies are happy to work for nothing (!) there are costs involved in transporting them from one location to another. The Conservation Award is made biennially and co-funded by NYMA and the North York Moors National Park Authority.
